Love is not self-seeking (reading Max Lucado’s A love worth giving)

Philippians  2:3-4 “Do nothing from selfishness/empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for you own personal interests, but also for the interest of others.”

Selfishness is an obsession with self that excludes others, hurting everyone.

“Worrying is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.”

Van Wilder

“Character is what you are in the dark when no one but God is watching.” writes Randy Alcorn

Just as Spring’s role is different from that of fall, so each of the seasons of our lives has a different emphasis, focus, and beauty. One is not better than another; each season yeilds its own unique treasures. We cannot skip ahead to experience the riches of another life season anymore than a farmer can rush the spring. Each season builds on the one before it.  Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Love, for the Day is Near

8Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

11And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

-Romans 13:8-14

Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired.

‘May the Favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17

Dear Lord, i pray that You would bless my work and establish it. I commit all of the work i do to You so that it may be used for Your glory. Give me the strength to accomplish what i must do each day, and the wisdom and ability to do well. Be in charge of every detail of my work so that it will find favor with others and be successful.

Lyric from ‘I AM’ by Ginny Owens

Cause, there’s a bigger picture
And you don’t have to change the world (oh no)
I’m your creator, I am working out my plan
And through you, I will show them
There’s a bigger picture, you can’t see
You don’t have to change the world, just trust in me
Cause I am your creator, I am working out my plan
And through you, I will show them, I Am
I Am

The Glory of God

‘Glory’ -semitic languages of  ‘to be heavy/weighty’

Glory to God through the creations. (Rev. 4:11)

Glory to God for the salvation. (Rev. 5:12; 7:10; 11:15-17)

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”  – 1 John 4:4

Singing ‘Indescribable‘ by Chris Tomlin

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same
You are amazing God
You are amazing God
